The Nusantara Symphony Orchestra is formed in order to continue the Nusantara Chamber Orchestra which was established by the Nusantara Foundation by Prof. Dr. Mochtar Kusuma-Atmadja in 1988. For more than a decade the NCO performed regularly at the Hilton Hotel, conducted by the late Yazeed Djamin, who passed away at the age of 51.

Our able Music Director Otto Sidharta has planned a series of recitals and concerts starting in June, 2002, of recitals and concerts which will be held at the Taman Ismail Marzuki Art Center. Our instruments and music scores are now kept at the Cantus Music Center.

It is our sincere wish that everyone who loves classical music would become a Friend of the NSO.

Mrs. Herawati Diah handed over the management to the new board, which is chaired by Mrs. Pia Alisjahbana at the Mitra Budaya building at Jalan Tanjung, Central Jakarta. Present were all the members of the previous board and some of the members of the new board.
